Lazio Stadium: the Superintendency has given its approval to the project. The City Council: ‘An important step’

The redevelopment project for the Stadio Flaminio is moving forward: the Superintendency has given its approval during the preliminary inter-departmental meeting. According to Roma Capitale, this is “an important step in the process undertaken in recent months by the City Council in collaboration with all stakeholders”. The Biancocelesti club is also celebrating: “After many years of waiting and the stadium gradually falling into disuse, a concrete prospect is now on the horizon: to breathe new life into the Flaminio Stadium, restoring it to Rome as a venue for sport and culture, open to the community, and finally giving Lazio and its supporters a home of their own’.”
The process continues
However, the Superintendency’s approval is accompanied by requirements relating to history, architecture, the landscape and archaeology, which the Lazio Region must comply with during the regeneration process. One of the key issues concerns the preservation of the canopy of the structure designed by Pier Luigi Nervi.
“The requirements set out, as well as those relating to transport and other issues raised during the Services Conference, will naturally have to be carefully assessed and, in essence, incorporated into the next phase of the project,” states the City Council.
The aim, in fact, “remains, as always, to ensure the restoration and enhancement of the Flaminio, whilst fully respecting its historical and architectural value”, and Roma Capitale “will now continue the administrative process in constant dialogue with all the relevant institutions”.
The club’s satisfaction
Despite the conditions, Lazio welcomed the news with great satisfaction. For the Biancocelesti club, the Superintendency’s decision is ‘a ruling of particular significance, which forms part of an overall positive picture, in which the other bodies involved in the Services Conference have also expressed a favourable opinion, acknowledging the process of dialogue and collaboration that has developed over recent months’.
