(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Leonardo - Finmeccanica is running at Piazza Affari with the market looking at the excellent performance of the helicopter division compared to competitors. In detail, on 29 May
The professional association of general aviation manufacturers (Gama) has published sales data for the first quarter of 2024. "Despite the positive outlook, numerous announced orders, many purchases of military helicopters and solid order books," explain analysts at Banca Akros, "deliveries were around 12% lower than in the January-March 2023 period. The biggest declines were recorded in the piston (-5% year-on-year) and turbine (-14%) helicopter markets, while market revenues fell to USD 700 million from USD 800 million in the same period last year (-12.5%).
In this difficult context, mainly due to 'a lack of qualified personnel' and slowness in the production chain, Leonardo Helicopters 'did much better than its competitors Airbus and Bell'. In fact, the Italian company delivered 29 helicopters (stable year-on-year), for a turnover of USD 232 million (+18%). On the other hand, sales ofAirbus Helicopters fell by 29% to 48 helicopters, with revenues of $315 million (-30%). Finally, Bell Helicopters delivered 18 helicopters (-18%), with revenues stable at $81 million. "The helicopter market is still in good shape," explains Banca Akros, "and Leonardo Helicopters has performed much better than its closest competitors, also thanks to a very modern and complete product line, both in the civil and military fields.
