Salmonella: large-scale recall of moringa-based supplements – do not consume or pass them on
The contamination originated in the United States, and the products were mainly sold online via the companies’ own websites or on Amazon, eBay and Walmart. Here is the list
The Ministry of Health has issued a warning regarding food supplements containing moringa leaf powder, following a large-scale recall of several products contaminated by a salmonellosis outbreak affecting a number of US states. The alert was issued by the global Infosan network (International Food Safety Authorities Network), which is jointly managed by the World Health Organisation and the FAO. The Ministry advises consumers who may have these supplements at home “not to consume them or pass them on to others”.
Sales mainly online
“The products subject to the recall,” explains the Ministry of Health, “were sold mainly online, on the websites of TNVitamins, Doctor’s Pride, Live it Up and Why Not Natural, as well as on other platforms, including Amazon, eBay and Walmart”.
Moringa (in powder or capsule form) is used as a superfood due to its powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and restorative properties.
All recalled products
Specifically, the company Total Nutrition Inc. has recalled TNVitamins-branded 1,200 mg 100% organic Moringa capsules, batch 2800 (expiry date 02/2028); TNVitamins 100% Moringa powder, batch 2782 (05/2028); TNVitamins ‘Ultra Potent Complete Green Superfood’ Moringa 10,000 mg capsules, batches 2507199 (09/2027), 2512-304 (02/2028), 2793 (02/2028), 2748 (07/2027), 2725 (04/2027) and 2503104 (04/2027); Doctor’s Pride brand 10,000 mg Moringa Complete Green Superfood Ultra Potent, batches 2507199 (09/2027), 2748 (07/2027) and 2725 (04/2027).
The company Why Not Natural has recalled its Why Not Natural-branded ‘Green Superfood’ pure organic moringa capsules, with batch no. A25G051 and an expiry date of 07/2028 indicated on the bottom of the bottle.
