Bills, gas +19.2% for vulnerable users in March
Agency: wholesale quotations up sharply due to Middle East conflict
The price of gas in March for vulnerable users increased by 19.2%, set by the public energy agency Arera. The tariff came to 130.97 cents per cubic metre, compared to 109.85 in February. "After the drop recorded in February (-2.8%, ndr)," writes Arera, "the month of March 2026, due to the conflict in the Middle East, saw wholesale quotations rise sharply compared to those recorded in the previous month. Therefore, for the approximately 2.3 million customers still in the Vulnerability Protection Service, the price of the raw material gas alone is 52.12 euro per megawatt hour'. In February it was 35.21 euro.
On Monday, 30 March, Arera released data showing that in the second quarter of 2026, the electricity bill for the vulnerable 'typical customer' served under the higher protection regime will increase by 8.1 per cent.
