President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella was admitted to hospital on Tuesday 15 April for a planned operation to implant pacemaker, after completing his scheduled engagements yesterday. The intervention took place at 8pm. At the end of the operation, the President returned to the cardiology ward where he spent a quiet night. The President is totally asymptomatic and in stable clinical condition.
Already this morning, the President of the Republic read the newspapers on his ipad. From what has been learnt, he is well and in active condition. His condition will now be monitored, but in cases of this kind, discharge from the hospital, in this case the Santo Spirito in Rome, takes place within 48 hours of implantation. So theoretically as early as today, but more likely tomorrow.
On Tuesday, among other engagements, the president also enacted the 'Morandi law' on compensation for relatives of victims of road collapses, unanimously approved by Parliament, pointing out some inconsistencies to be remedied.
Quirinal: President's upcoming engagements confirmed
Mattarella's next commitments are all confirmed. On 23 April, as the Quirinale's official agenda shows, the Head of State will meet the Combatant and Arms Associations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. On 25 April, he will be at the Altar of the Fatherland in the morning and will then travel to Genoa as part of the Liberation ceremonies.
