For the premier, 'peace is built with deterrence'. And then he lunged at the left: 'Schlein, don't run away, answer.

"In the coming days we will take another step to build a national mechanism for monitoring waiting lists, which does not exist. It means having the possibility to intervene in a timely manner. And there will be solutions for visits and health services, which will also take place on Saturdays and Sundays. The aim is then to abolish the spending ceiling for hiring doctors, to involve specialisation students more, to penalise health managers who fail to meet waiting list reduction targets, rewarding them if they do". This was said by Giorgia Meloni, premier and leader of FdI, from the stage at the closing of her party's European election campaign in Piazza del Popolo in Rome.
Meloni on Schlein, don't run away and answer
The premier then spoke about politics. "A few days ago the candidate for the chairmanship of the committee of the Socialists, a Mr Schmit, said that the Conservatives are an undemocratic force, according to the candidate of Elly Schlein and the PD I, who am president of the Conservatives and chair the Italian government after being elected, would not be democratic. I publicly ask the secretary of the PD to say whether she shares these words or not, but don't run away this time too'. Meloni then sent two jabs. One, again, to the Dems: 'For the PD it is only democracy if they govern,' she stressed. The other to the M5S: 'From turning parliament into a glass palace to a consociative party of the first republic the step is short: there is a consistency in the ability to betray all the promises they had made'.
Never opposition as in the premierate, let's not touch the 194
The prime minister then defended the reforms that had been initiated; "even the toga must be sanctioned if they make mistakes, the reform is just and necessary"; and recalled how, compared to 2023, "we are at -60% of landings". As for the premierate, which is proceeding in Parliament, "the left and the 5 stars," Meloni stressed, "are making an opposition that they have not reserved for any other measure of this government because they really do not like the idea that it is the citizens who can decide. She went on to say, 'We have never touched the 194, we want to apply it in its entirety: it is true freedom if you can also choose not to have an abortion, if you have an abortion because you have no choice that is not freedom, we add freedom.
Peace is built through deterrence
Speaking instead of foreign policy, Meloni pointed out: 'In the face of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many believed that Italy would be the weak link. But the era of spaghetti and mandolin is over. Now Italy is standing up straight, defending the national interest and building peace by demonstrating firmness. Because peace is built with deterrence, not with cowardice, which is the most powerful possible incentive to new invasions and wars'.
Building the centre-right also in Europe
Returning to the Europeans, and concluding her hour-long speech, Meloni reiterated: 'We want to do in Brussels what we did in Rome a year and a half ago: build a centre-right government in Europe as well and definitively send the green, red and yellow lefts that have done so much damage to our continent over all these years to the opposition. We have never governed with the left and we will not govern either in Italy or in Europe'.
