"The Prime Minister commented on the positive figures released by the Ministry of Tourism: ‘This result recognises the beauty of our country, the quality of what we have to offer and the hard work of the entire tourism sector’"
Key points
“Italia remains at the forefront of European tourism for the summer of 2026 as well.” The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, wrote this on X this morning. “This result,” the Prime Minister added, “recognises the beauty of our country, the quality of what we have to offer and the hard work of the entire tourism sector.”
The Prime Minister’s thanks to workers in the sector
For these reasons, the Prime Minister wished to express her heartfelt thanks to all those working in the sector. Her thanks went to “the entrepreneurs, workers and professionals in the sector who, every day, help to make Italia an increasingly attractive and competitive destination”.
Italia tops the tourism rankings, ahead of Spain and France
The Prime Minister therefore wished to highlight the positive figures released by the Ministry of Tourism, which show Italia as the ‘queen’ of tourism with an OTA occupancy rate (which measures the percentage of bookings made via Online Travel Agencies out of the total available) of of 51.2 per cent, higher than competitors such as Spain (42.8 per cent) and France (32.9 per cent), whilst also boasting an average rate (153 euros) lower than both Spain (170) and Greece (195).
“The Government,” concluded Prime Minister Meloni, “will continue to support this sector, which is strategic for the Italian economy.”
Minister Mazzi: results that make us proud
“The summer of 2026,” added the Minister for Tourism, Gianmarco Mazzi, “has proved to be a success for tourism in Italia, with an OTA occupancy rate of 51.2 per cent, higher than that of competitors such as Spain and France. The 26 per cent increase in flight searches compared with last year, combined with an increase in flight capacity, demonstrates strong international interest in our country. Italia retains its position as the destination of choice for visitors from all over the world. This result is the fruit of constant teamwork between the Government, businesses and industry operators. We are proud of this and look to the future with optimism.”
