The official partial results of the vote count in the Mexican presidential election confirm the exit polls: Claudia Sheinbaum, candidate of Morena, the party of outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has a clear advantage over the opposition candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez. The partial count (PREP) published by the National Electoral Institute (INE), attributes 60 per cent of the preferences to Sheinbaum, against 28 per cent for Gálvez. The third candidate, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, got 8.7%. Ine president Guadalupe Taddei called on politicians, candidates and parties to 'maintain serenity and ensure respect for procedures', and to accept the results 'with maturity'. Taddei spoke of 'a historic day'.
