A Scudetto-winning Milan beat Napoli (2-1)

Allegri's revenge first in the table with Conte and Gasperini

But what is happening? It is true that the world is turning upside down, and that everything is becoming its opposite, but this victory (2-1) of Allegri's Milan over Conte's Napoli is precisely the plastic representation of how there are no longer any certainties.

The first surprise concerns AC Milan who, less than a month after their home loss to Cremonese, are back in the running for the Scudetto. A miraculous resurrection. An old style Milan that returned to make its fans dream by dominating the partenopei for almost an hour, then retreating with order when the Diavolo were left in ten for an expulsion foul by Estupinan, from which De Bruyne's 2-1 penalty was born.

The second surprise concerns Max Allegri, the disputed prophet of the short-face. Well, in this Milan, led by an extraordinary Pulisic (author of the second goal and the assist for Saelemaekers' first), catenacci and short faces just don't exist. This Milan plays, scores and entertains its fans who, finally, after a season to forget, have made peace with the Rossoneri flag.

It is a rebuilt AC Milan, leading the standings with Napoli and Roma (12 points) to which Allegri has given back play and determination after a long skid that seemed to have become chronic. A revolution, that of Max, which surprises even his admirers, accustomed to those long defensive sufferings in order to bring home stunted 1-0s devoid of beauty and joy.

As we saw against a Napoli side lacking three out of four starting defenders, it is now the other way around: those who want a spectacle, go and see the Milan of Modric, Rabiot and Pulisic, with the latter scoring and scoring like no one else in this league.

Since he arrived in Italy, in fact, no one can boast a better total of goals plus assists than him. That the American was a talent was understood, but Allegri deserves credit for putting him in the best conditions to be more incisive and decisive. Of course, left with ten men, Allegri took him out to reinforce the defence, but in short: Allegri is still Allegri, if you are born square you cannot become round in little more than a month.

Disappointing instead was the inclusion of Leao, not very responsive after his long calf injury. It could become a case, that of Leao, a case that Allegri will soon have to solve before his employment, in such a run-in group, becomes a problem.

As for Napoli, nothing is lost. Having finished unbeaten, Conte will now have to make a new cut to his side. Holding the midfield is not enough if you don't hit the opposition. The Parthenopeans only showed themselves in the last half-hour when, in numerical superiority, they laid siege to Maignan's goal, who was good at neutralising a couple of mangy conclusions. And lucky when a shot from Neres, blocked by Modric, chipped the post. Conte will also have to contend with De Bruyne, not at all happy with his substitution. "I hope he was displeased with the result, if he was for anything else he got the wrong person," Conte retorted.

ROMA-VERONA (2-0).
After an exhausting game of cold sweats, Roma beat a tenacious Verona to take the lead over Napoli and AC Milan. It was a tough game, but in the end the Giallorossi came out on top thanks to Dovbyk's early goal and Soulèé's second-half strike when the Scaligeri seemed close to equalising.

Fourth win in five days for Gasperini who, strange but true, won without exalting. A lot of concreteness, but little game and little show. A curious metamorphosis that of Gasp, which however brings him to the top of the table. And excuse me if that's not enough.

CAGLIARI-INTER (0-2).
The Nerazzurri won well at home to Cagliari, re-entering the top flight. An air that is good for Inter who, with goals from Lautaro and Pio Esposito (their first in Serie A), score their second consecutive league victory. Chivu, when Pio scores, cheers as if he were the one who scored. An almost convincing success, that of Inter, very aggressive and vertical, who only risked a bit (Cagliari's post) before scoring the 2-0. The only flaw: there was an exaggerated euphoria around young Pio, by now christened as the new Vieri with a sprinkling of Toni. The boy is good, he has personality, but calm and chalk, said the old Trapattoni.

JUVENTUS-ATALANTA (1-1)
A bittersweet draw that, curiously enough, pleased both sides. Tudor pretends to be satisfied saying he saw the best first half since he has been on the Juve bench. De gustibus... But in the meantime, after Borussia and Verona this is the third draw for the Bianconeri. It is true that after suffering the disadvantage, thanks also to the changes, they had a decisive reaction, but the shots are few and the construction is still slow. Finally, the merry-go-round of centre-forwards was not clear: inside Openda and outside Vlahovic. While David, so much trumpeted, still remained on the bench, mouldering. In the end it was a draw that made Juric's Atalanta happy, who were left with ten men in a final assault on Forte Apache.

PISA-FIORENTINA (0-0)
A zero-zero that goes tight to the Pisans who play a sparkling match taking a crossbar and a post. What's more, they saw a penalty cancelled out that they usually concede without too much thought these days. The Pisans, who also claimed a penalty, come out of this Tuscan derby with their heads held high, where it was Fiorentina who were disappointed, obtaining their third draw (two goals cancelled for Kean) but floating in the lower reaches of the classification. Hard times for Pioli unable to give a soul and a game to the violets despite the return to the 3-5-2. Pioli is missing several key men and will host Roma next Sunday. A turnaround is needed before something else comes to Pioli besides the booing.

LECCE-BOLOGNA (2-2)

It was a draw that did not make the Bologna coach, Italiano, happy, because the Salentini regained the lead in extremis, with a header goal from the talented baby Francesco Camarda, in a hard-fought match full of twists and turns. Lecce first escaped, then were caught and overtaken, but in the end their young centre forward put things right. It was the first goal of this promising 18-year-old bomber, on loan from AC Milan, who almost always came from the bench and was often criticised by the public. Now that he has saved Lecce from its fourth consecutive defeat, he will probably be more loved.

COMO-CREMONESE (1-1).

Well done Cremonese, who took a suffered but deserved point at home against Como. After five days the grigiorossi are still unbeaten, reaching a small record for a newly-promoted team. In the first half Nico Paz scored with a soft touch. Fabregas' team, however, had a fault: that of not closing down. And it was punished by Cremonese with a header from captain Baschirotto. Como are strong and play good football: but a bit of humility wouldn't hurt them

Tonight's postponed matches Parma-Torino (6.30pm) and Genoa-Lazio (8.45pm)

Ps. At the age of 96, Carlo Sassi, the inventor of the moviola on Domenica Sportiva, passed away. A stroke of genius, that of Sassi, which changed football by entering, like a family thing, into the popular imagination. Almost 60 years later we have the Var, moviola's degenerate grandchild, of which grandpa would not be very proud.
