In Cremona, the art of the great fellow-citizen Claudio Monteverdi is celebrated, with the opera 'L'Orfeo' and a rich programme, culminating with the rare appearance in Italy of mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli. A good opportunity to listen closely to much music for string quartet in Reggio Emilia. Always a quartet, but a star of innovation is the Kronos Quartet, which celebrates fifty years of activity in San Francisco.

From 14 to 23 June the 41st edition of the Festival Monteverdi. Opening on the 14th (with a repeat on the 21st) at Teatro Ponchielli is the opera "L'Orfeo"; conducted by Francesco Corti with the ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro; directed by Olivier Fredj, active in European opera houses, making his debut in Italy and in the Monteverdi repertoire. In the company are the winners of the CMC - Cavalli Monteverdi Competition of Baroque Singing. Concluding on the 23rd, again at the Ponchielli, will be the voice of Cecilia Bartoli, with Les Musiciens du Prince. On the other days, there will be well-prepared programmes with baroque specialists such as Ottavio Dantone, Antonio Greco, Francesco Corti, Fabio Biondi, Giordano Antonelli, William Christie, and Federico Maria Sardelli, conducting orchestras such as the Accademia Bizantina, Il Pomo d'oro, the Concerto de' Cavalieri, Europa Galante, Musica Antiqua Latina, Les Arts Florissants, and Modo Antiquo.
Reggio Emilia
