The August increase in the highway tolls was cancelled.
After the weekend announcements, now the officiality arrives. The rapporteurs of the law converting the Infrastructure decree have presented a new amendment that takes up the contents of the old one, essentially related to Anas, but removes the whole part on tariff increases. It is therefore official that there will be no price increases.
The highly contested amendment was presented on Friday morning, 4 July, and anticipated by Il Sole 24 Ore. It envisaged an increase in all tolls of one euro for every thousand kilometres travelled, to replenish the fee that the concessionaires pay to Anas. This extra money was to be used to structurally finance Anas, enabling it to perform a number of functions related to the road network it took over. In total, the measure was worth 90 million per year.
The rapporteurs of theDecree No. 73/2025 in the Environment and Transport Committee in the Chamber of Deputies have just filed a version of the amendment without the increases, which will therefore not come into force.
There remains a technical part, which regulates the Central Guarantee Fund for motorways and metropolitan railways. Anas will also be able to use it to finance the increased needs arising from the measures of the Technical Advisory Boards for the settlement of disputes with contractors.
