An earthquake tremor of magnitude 4.6 was felt in Naples and the Campi Flegrei area at 12.47pm. The epicentre was reported in the Bacoli area at a depth of 5 kilometres. Many people poured into the streets. The magnitude of 4.6 is the highest recorded in the last 40 years in the Phlegrean area, equalling that which occurred on the night of 13 March. Train circulation in the Naples area was suspended as a precautionary measure. Regular departures of trains from Rome to the south. Checks are in progress on the network to allow circulation to be restored. The Naples metro line 2 serving the Bagnoli-Pozzuoli section and trains of the local Cumana and Circumflegrea railways are also suspended.
The tremor was felt in numerous neighbourhoods of Naples, such as the Centro Direzionale and the Ferrovia. No damage to property or injured persons are reported at the moment. The earthquake was registered by the Vesuvius Observatory Operations Room of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Fortunately, no requests for intervention were received by the fire brigade.
Train circulation at the Naples node has been suspended as a precautionary measure. In fact, the protocol that calls for a halt to train circulation in the event of seismic swarms exceeding magnitude 4.0 has been applied. Trains - we learn from Ferrovie dello Stato - are being held in neighbouring localities. On the other hand, trains departing from Rome and heading south are regular. Checks are in progress on the network to allow the restoration of circulation. Line 2 of the Naples metro serving the section between Bagnoli and Pozzuoli is also stopped. Trains on the local Cumana and Circumflegrea railways are also stopped.
