New Fiat 500 hybrid presented in Turin, Filosa: 'Mirafiori is the home of Fiat'
For Minister Urso it is 'the symbol of Italy that resists' - EU decarbonisation policies in focus ahead of 10 December
A production line in full production climb to push the latest of Stellantis' city cars, the Fiat 500 hybrid, to its market debut. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is betting on this model and the Jeep Compass produced in Melfi to guarantee an increase in production volumes in Italy.
'Mirafiori is the home of Fiat,' says Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa. "Stellantis is fulfilling the commitments made with the Italy Plan and is doing its part," says Filosa, "and the start of production of the Fiat 500 hybrid has led to 400 new hires and the second shift starting in March. Filosa recalled the 2 billion investment and 6 billion acquisitions made in Italy. 'The new 500 hybrid is our answer to customer demand, it is the product that Europe needs to renew its fleet,' he stressed. A pragmatic approach, built on common sense.
From Europe, Filosa returns to ask for concrete commitments, starting with support for city cars, 'which pollute less', and appeals for a return to growth. "All members of the ecosystem must play their part and we feel we can say that ours is a clear and shared cause," adds Filosa.
The visit to the Mirafiori production lines coincided with the presentation of the project to relaunch the office building that will become the reference hub in Turin for the entire Group, the Green Campus, together with two other poles in France and Germany. 'The decision to produce the hybrid version of the Fiat 500 goes in the direction of enhancing the free choice of the market and consumers,' said Stellantis chairman John Elkann. He reiterated the need to correct European policies - 'Europe risks industrial decline,' he said - to ensure that Europe remains an area of production and not just a market for others.
"We are asking for a new regulatory framework to produce and sell cars that customers want and can buy," Elkann added. In Turin beats 'the heart of Fiat,' he added, reiterating the centrality of Turin and its technological and production excellence. The first deliveries of the 500 hybrid will be in January 2026 and the estimated volume will reach 100 thousand units a year while production by the end of the year will be at 6 thousand.
