New Nissan Micra, sixth generation unveiled: it is electric only and the sister of the Renault 5

The new electric-only Nissan Micra is 5 cm longer, totalling 397 cm, than the Renault 5 E-Tech with which it shares much of the mechanicals. The car, anticipated with posts on social media well before the official launch, shows off unusual rounded lights, both at the front and at the rear. The side profile is classic, in five-door only mode, and is notable for the opening handle inserted in the window frame. Six colours are available with the roof also available in contrasting colours.

Inside, the new Micra shares with the R5 the dashboard with two screens, both 10.1 inches, which are also oriented towards the driver. The multimedia system, moreover, integrates not only Google services, but also touches such as, for example, the profile of Mount Fuji, inserted in the glove compartment between the front seats. The boot is credited with 326 litres of space, but can be increased to 1,106 litres by folding down the rear sofa. Finally, the change of pace of the new Micra is not only reflected in its design, which is new for the brand.

The range of the new Micra includes two different battery sizes, 40 kWh or 52 kWh. The first of which is coupled to a 122 hp and 225 Nm unit, for a range of 310 km. The other denomination, the 52 kWh unit with 150 hp and 245 Nm, claims 405 km of autonomy. What changes, of course, are the steps in the charging procedure. In fact, the 40 kWh battery goes up to 80 kW, on direct current, while the second 52 kW, goes up to 100 kW. The result of both is, however, the same: it always takes 15-80% in 30 minutes.

The new Nissan Micra makes the most of the same AmpR platform shared with the Renault 5. Starting with the refined multilink rear axle, but also for the service electronics that are, in part, in common. Just as the four driving modes are the same: comfort, eco, sport and individual. Plus, for the new Nissan Micra only, there is the historic e-Pedal function of all the Japanese brand's electric cars. It allows the car to come to a halt by simply leaving pressure on the accelerator. Prices have yet to be defined.
