The new social card is coming: 460 euro for groceries, petrol and public transport

The new social card 'Dedicated to you' for 2024 will be worth approximately EUR 460. The sum will be loaded in one tranche onto the card, which is expected to be operational before the summer. It can be used for the purchase of basic foodstuffs: the list of 23 items includes products ranging from meat to fish and eggs, from bread to pasta, from milk to coffee, from vegetables to fruit. But beneficiaries will also be able to spend the money on petrol and local public transport subscriptions.

The joint implementation decree of the Ministry of Agriculture with the Ministries of Economy, Enterprise and Made in Italy is awaited for more details. The resources made available by the Budget Law for 2024 amount to EUR 600 million, up from the initial figure for 2023 (equal to EUR 500 million); the number of beneficiaries of the EUR 459.70 card, according to initial government estimates, will also expand to around 1.4 million, 50-100 thousand more than the previous year.

The support is aimed at family units (composed of at least three persons) resident in Italy with an Isee not exceeding 15,000 euro. It is necessary to have at least one child and to be registered in the municipal resident population register.

Excluded from the 'Dedicata a te' social card are, in addition to singles and childless couples, those who receive another type of state benefit, such as unemployment benefit (Naspi or DisColl), mobility allowance, redundancy pay or Assegno di inclusione.

The card can be used at all commercial establishments that sell foodstuffs. By special agreements, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry has made arrangements with all participating establishments belonging to the large-scale retail trade (and others) to apply a 15% discount to card holders.
