No revolution but many important improvements that raise the quality of the smartphone even higher. In New York, Google officially presented the new Pixel 10 range of smartphones. Triple cameras, new Googl Tensor G5 chips and seven years of software updates, including the 'Pixel Drop' and security updates.
A leap for photography
.Pixel 10 has a new 5x telephoto lens that extends optical quality up to 10x. And Super Res Zoom brings you even closer, up to 20x on the subject. This is an important step because until now among premium smartphones Pixel was the only one without a telephoto lens. The 50 MP main camera has an enhanced optical stabilisation system for videos and photos, the telephoto lens reaches 100x by combining hardware, software and AI, while the 42 MP front camera with 103° field of view is best in class.
The new chip bet.
The most interesting novelty, however, is the new processor, from which we expect not only more autonomy but also more advanced management of Gemini Ai. Tensor G5 has been presented as the most advanced chip ever made by Google: 3nm production process, TPU performance increased by 60 per cent, 34 per cent faster CPU, improved ISP for images and videos, and first integration of the Gemini Nano AI model directly on the device, with over 20 native AI functions at launch. Security is ensured by the Titan M2 chip and new anti-fraud and anti-malware features, plus VPN included. Combined with 12 GB of RAM, it promises a battery life of 30 hours thanks to the largest batteries ever seen on this range, with 55% fast charging in 30 minutes via a 30 W charger. All models integrate G2, the new wireless charging standard, and compatibility with the 'Pixel Snap' accessory ecosystem, including support for MagSafe chargers. The 'Actua' display offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and can drop to 1 nit for comfortable use in all light conditions. Audio has been improved with deeper bass and superior sound quality. Four new colours: Frost and Obsidian as neutral options, a bold Lemongrass and, in homage to the first generation, the return of Indigo.
Artificial Intelligence-related innovations
.On the AI front, Gemini Live now supports real-time visual overlays and a new native audio model that adapts the tone to the user's emotions. Software innovations include real-time voice translation during calls, Pixel Journal app for private notes and diaries, integrated writing tools in Gboard, and AI functions in photo editors. The camera introduces 'Camera Coach', an AI assistant that suggests shots and compositions, and 'Auto Best Take' for perfect group photos. On the Pixel 10 Pro comes "Pro-Res Zoom" up to 100x with exceptional detail thanks to AI diffusion models. Photos integrate C2PA metadata to ensure authenticity. Compared to last year, the number of small Gemini-based apps is impressive. A step ahead of Apple.
Editing Google photos with voice.
New Google Photos features were also unveiled that will allow users to ask the app to edit their photos. For example, you can say 'remove cars in the background' or something less specific, such as 'restore this old photo', and Google Photos will take action. They will launch initially on Pixel 10 devices in the US, allowing users to describe the changes they want to make to their photo via voice or text.
