Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio in the pages of La Stampa, on the sidelines of his reflections on the separation of careers, announced that there would be a second season of reforms, for example for a new code of criminal procedure.
'Yes, the reform of the code of criminal procedure is being studied,' he confirms, 'and it aims to restore the liberal principles desired by Giuliano Vassalli, hero of the Resistance and not suspected of authoritarianism, whose 1988-89 code has been bastardised and distorted. We hope to succeed in this legislature'.
The Garlasco case according to Nordio 'is emblematic'.
I have never entered into the merits and I do not intend to, but I repeat that after a double acquittal of a defendant it is difficult to convict beyond reasonable doubt,' he concludes. The reform would in any case take into account the arguments, moreover dating back many years, of the Constitutional Court. But even the Court, like the Supreme Court, has often changed its mind'.
