Google: how to choose *Il Sole* as one of your favourite news sources
The search engine is also bringing this new feature to Italia. Here’s how to choose *Il Sole 24 Ore* as your preferred source
Google has expanded its “Favourite Sources” service to new countries, including Italia. Launched last year in the United States and other markets, the feature allows users to select their preferred news outlets as sources of information. As a result, articles published by the selected sources will appear more frequently in Google’s “Top Stories”.
According to a statement released by Google, readers are twice as likely to click on a website after marking it as a “Favourite Source”. To date, over 200,000 unique websites have been selected, ranging from local blogs to global news organisations.
How to select *Il Sole 24 Ore*
There are two ways to do this. The first is via the online articles in *Il Sole 24 Ore*. Below the headline, you’ll see a button labelled ‘Add *Il Sole 24 Ore* to Google Bookmarks’. As shown in the example pictured below. Alternatively, you can find it at the top of this article. Once you’ve clicked it, a Google page will open for you to confirm your choice.
Alternatively, you can search for a topical subject in the search engine. For example, “Stock markets today”. Clicking on the star icon next to the ‘Top Stories’ section will open a menu. Typing ‘Sole 24 Ore’, for example, will bring up various options: the full website, the premium section and more. You can select these to create a list of your favourite sources.
Once you have selected your sources, they will appear more frequently in the ‘Top Stories’ section or in the dedicated ‘From your sources’ section on the search results page. Users will also continue to see content from other sites. Preferences can be changed or added to. Looking at feedback from early adopters, Google has found that over half of the users who chose to use the new feature selected four or more sources.
