In Naples, a festival dedicated to sacred music composed by the great Neapolitan composers between the 17th and 18th centuries takes place throughout the month of November in the famous churches of great beauty. In Rome, instead, we listen to 'Nixon in China' by John Adams, which is not a frequent occasion; with the ensembles of S. Cecilia. Nineteenth-century music instead in Ferrara, with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe conducted by Pappano.
Naples
From 4 to 29 November, the third edition of the Festival of Sacred Music, in six of the most beautiful churches. We will listen to the great music of Pergolesi, Alessandro Scarlatti, Fago, Durante, Leo and Jommelli. These musics return to resonate in the churches for which they were composed and for which they were intended. There are numerous first performances in modern times of musical jewels found in the libraries of the Girolamini, the Conservatorio, and other important European libraries. After the prologue on the 4th at the Conservatorio, the first concert is on the 14th, in S. Gregorio Armeno, a special dialogue between Alessandro Scarlatti and his model, Palestrina; with the vocal ensemble Odhecaton. Free entrance.
Rome
On 6-7-8 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica a good opportunity to hear the opera 'Nixon in China' (in concert form), with singers and the Orchestra and Choir of S. Cecilia, conducted by the composer himself, John Adams. Rarely heard in Italy, we recall the 2008 production at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. The programme opens with the adrenaline-filled 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine', again by Adams; and the well-known suite 'Billy the Kid', by Copland.
Ferrara
On the 18th at the Teatro Comunale, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conductor Antonio Pappano, is on its only Italian stop on a European tour. With the orchestra, the young violinist Maria Dueñas will perform Lalo's Sinfonia Spagnola; Dvořák's Slavonic Dances will conclude the programme.
