From transparent TVs to smart shoes: the best of technology is on stage in Las Vegas
Orphe Insole, the sports shoe
Could Sport and Fitness have been missing from the Best of Innovation Award categories? Of course not, and Insole follows in the Australian company's pioneering tradition in sports shoes by integrating six pressure sensors and a 6-axis motion unit into an ultra-thin design with wireless charging, capable of over 24 hours of continuous operation without compromising comfort and usability. Finally, the technology detects gait patterns, weight distribution and balance and offers a dual analysis capability, on the one hand algorithm-based gait assessment and on the other hand motion recognition directly on-device via machine learning, to provide biomechanical data usually used in the laboratory in real-world contexts. The system is mainly used in rehabilitation and sports science and is accompanied by an open source SDK (Software developer kit) and open libraries to facilitate the creation of an ecosystem with researchers and industrial partners.
