"The whole framework of the agreement is unclear. We are living in a situation of uncertainty that obviously generates concern". This was explained to the Stampa by the president of Confindustria, Emanuele Orsini, regarding the US-EU tariffs at 15%. 'Industry,' he adds, 'is experiencing an emergency situation and solutions and compensation are needed. We cannot waste public money. We need an in-depth analysis, sector by sector, and Europe must put a plan in place'.
According to Orsini, 'this is a time of emergency, and serious antidotes and corrective measures are needed for sectors that are not coping,' he emphasises. Moreover, at the European level it is inevitable that our products will become less competitive. The prediction is that the dollar will devalue by up to 20 per cent and, if that is the case, it will clearly become a problem. Thirdly, we must attack European bureaucracy, a self-imposed internal tariffs worth 6-7% of GDP'.
'Finally, we have been asking since May for an extraordinary plan not only for rearmament, but also for industry,' he explains. 'The EU has no more time, it has to tell companies if Europe wants them or we have to go elsewhere. We said in the assembly: we need a Next Generation for European industry, and we need to go beyond the Stability Pact because doing business is social growth,' he concludes.
