Moody's decision is an important sign of confidence in the solidity of our economy and in the credibility of the government's economic policies, underlined sources from Palazzo Chigi in the aftermath of the rating agency's decision to promote Italy . "It is the recognition of the serious and responsible work we are doing to safeguard public accounts, support growth and attract investment. We will continue on this path with determination, in the interest of Italian citizens and the stability of the nation," sources from Plazzo Chigi stressed.
Moody's rating came in the night of 23 May and changes the outlook to positive for Italy, a change that 'reflects the improvement in the fiscal outlook, in a context of better-than-expected fiscal performance in 2024 and a stable domestic political environment, which increases the likelihood that fiscal indicators will continue to improve, in line with the government's medium-term structural budget plan,' the rating agency writes in a note.
On channel socila X, Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Business and Made in Italy, also intervened, pointing out that "After the positive judgments of the rating agencies S&P, Fitch and Dbrs in April, Moody's also promotes the work of the Government and raises the outlook. Important acknowledgements reinforced by concrete data: the spread is narrowing, foreign investments are growing, inflation remains below the EU average, employment and per capita income are rising. We are on the right track despite the difficult international situation'.
He is echoed by the Minister for European Affairs, the NRP and Cohesion Policies, Tommaso Foti, according to whom 'Moody's rewards the resilience of the Italian economic system, supported by a robust labour market, families and businesses with solid balance sheets and a healthy banking system. The continuing appreciation of the rating agencies and international investors confirms the validity of the serious and effective work of the Meloni government. A recognition that reinforces the will to continue along this path with determination'.
"Moody's positive rating confirms the validity of the centre-right government's economic policies. Moody's assessment follows those already coming from many rating companies. And after all, the data of the real economy are clear, emphasises the president of Forza Italia senators, Maurizio Gasparri. 'The spread has fallen to its lowest level in many years,' Gasparri adds, 'while employment is growing and unemployment is falling. In a difficult international economic context, with the Trumpian madness of tariffs in place, Italy is moving forward in a concrete and recognisable manner. The Left has no arguments, it only knows how to express lividity and hatred. But the reality of numbers refutes it'.
