Palermo: shooting after brawl in Monreale, three dead and two injured

Three people were killed and two wounded in a shooting that took place in the central Piazza Duomo in Monreale (Palermo) during the night. The victims are 26 and 23 years old; the wounded are 33 and 16. The shooting took place in a crowded square, in front of at least a hundred witnesses. According to an initial reconstruction, it all started after a fight for trivial reasons in front of a pizzeria. Then the two groups of youths confronted each other in the square. One of the protagonists of the attack, armed with a gun, started shooting.

The injured are in a very serious condition. The investigation is being conducted by the Carabinieri. The victims of the shooting are 23-year-old Salvatore Turdo, Massimo Pirozzo and 26-year-old Andrea Miceli. They died immediately after being taken to the capital's Ingrassia and Civico hospitals. One of the wounded is also said to be in a very serious condition. Numerous relatives and friends of the victims turned up in front of the hospitals, with shouts and scenes of despair.

One of the victims saved his girlfriend first

While the investigations by the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office, continue, witnesses tell the Ansa agency that Miceli was killed when he was walking to his cousin Turdo, who was also murdered. The boy, the sources report, had shortly before secured his girlfriend, locking her in the car and advising her not to move. A few minutes later he was hit by the bullets and died this morning in hospital from his serious injuries. Still in shock is his fiancée.
