A situation that is improving but still has some weak points. The latest snapshot taken by Altroconsumo on passport delivery times in Italy shows that the picture is much improved compared to six months ago, as in 14 cities the waiting time for an appointment at the questura is one or two days, at most a week. But, the consumer association notes, there are still excessively long waits in six large cities. Here are some examples: in Milan and Trento citizens wait more than three months, in Turin and Genoa more than two months, in Naples more than a month. The worst city is Bergamo where the wait is almost six months. The test was carried out on 12 November, when Altroconsumo tried to book an appointment on the State Police platform to check waiting times. The check was carried out in twenty cities: Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Bolzano, Cagliari, Catania, Milan, Naples, Genoa, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Pordenone, Potenza, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Turin, Trento and Trieste.
compared to almost six months ago, the situation has improved
.A comparison with the time taken almost six months ago (on 30 April 2024) shows a marked general improvement: in most cities (14 out of 20) the appointment at the police headquarters is available after one or two days or at most a week (Bari and Bolzano). This is an important signal that goes in the direction of a normalisation of the service, all the more so if we consider that in many cities only six months ago people waited months to get an appointment, we are talking about Pordenone, Bologna and Cagliari. In the Friulian city, the wait went from more than eight months last April to two days on 12 November. The Bolognese found the appointment for the next day, whereas six months ago they had to wait more than two months.
It is likely, notes the consumers' association, that it was the possibility, introduced in August, of going to the Post Office to make a passport that freed up places on the State Police platform. The same hypothesis can be made for Cagliari where, last April, people waited about four months and now they can go to the police station the next day. In fact, as many as 17 post offices are active on the passport front in the Sardinian capital.
Too long waiting times in big cities: from one to almost six months
However, the medal has another, less positive side. Altroconsumo's photograph shows, however, that in the largest cities waiting times are still too long for such an important document: in Bergamo, Milan, Trento. Turin, Genoa and Naples police headquarters and police stations cannot guarantee citizens reasonable waiting times: they range from one month to almost six months.
Black Jersey in Bergamo: 174 days of waiting
.In Bergamo, citizens have to wait almost six months to be able to set foot in the police station, and that is also an 'improvement' if we consider that in the photograph taken in April, the consumers' association found no appointments available.
