Peru, Parliament dismisses President José Jerí

Peru's interim president, José Jerí, was dismissed by parliament at the end of impeachment proceedings for alleged influence peddling and alleged irregular hiring.

The motion of censure tabled by the opposition was passed today with 75 votes in favour and 24 against (three abstentions).

Parliament has declared the post of president of the republic 'vacant' pending the vote for a new president of parliament to subsequently assume the leadership of the state.
