It was 1974 when the Porsche brand presented the 911 Turbo. This year, 2024, marks the 50th anniversary of the model, which is being celebrated with a special edition limited to 1,974 units of the 911 Turbo 50 Years, which is based on the latest-generation 911 Turbo S, to commemorate the year the first 911 Turbo made its debut.
Many elements and reminders of the past
.When it was launched in 1974, the Porsche 911 Turbo Type 930 revolutionised the performance boundaries for a production car. The model transferred the turbo technology used in competition cars to a production sports model, achieving superior performance and combining it with unique styling and unprecedented everyday usability. The celebratory model created for the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo (based on the 911 Turbo S introduced in 2019 ) pays tribute to and reinterprets this legacy. The standard vinyl side graphics recall the historic livery of the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo model presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1973, itself the forerunner of the 911 Turbo. The livery is distinguished by the highly contemporary Turbonite colour, which was offered exclusively for Porsche Turbo models and is now being used for the first time on a 911. The Turbonite shade was also chosen for the rear engine cover inserts, the fuel filler cap and the Porsche emblem. It is also used as a contrasting colour in the 'Turbo 50' logo.
Another reference to the past is the use of Grigio Antracite on the rear wing profile, the rear bumper, the base of the wing mirrors and the edges of the air intakes. On the rear bonnet grille is a badge bearing a turbocharger icon and the dates 1974-2024. When the door is open, an LED headlamp projects the image of a turbocharger on the ground next to the car. The 911 Turbo 50 Years is fitted as standard with 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbonite.
Heritage Style Interior
.The interior of the 911 Turbo 50 Years also tells the Turbo story. The seat centre strips and interior door panels are upholstered in the iconic McKenzie tartan, an exclusive tribute to the first Porsche 911 Turbo models. Other contrasting elements in Turbonite shade further differentiate this car from the standard 911 Turbo S. These Turbonite colour accents include the seat belts, controls, decorative stitching, decorative trim with black leather inserts and the Porsche badge on the GT sports steering wheel. The illuminated Turbo 50 logo is featured on both door sills with a black brushed aluminium finish. The adaptive sports seats Plus bear the logo embroidered on the headrests. The Turbo 50 logo also appears on the backrest of the left rear seat. Above the glove compartment is an aluminium commemorative plaque bearing both the Turbo 50 logo and the limited series number of the model. The A-pillar, sun visors and headliner are covered in perforated Race-Tex. The dashboard features the Porsche Design Subsecond analogue clock in the special Turbo 50 design.
Dedicated heritage package on request
.he Heritage Design 50 Years of Turbo package, inspired by tradition and available as an optional extra, enhances the commemorative model with numerous other exclusive equipment and styling elements that hark back to the 911 Turbo of the 1970s. The basic colour of the Heritage Design package is metallic Aventurine green. Alternatively, both the standard 911 colours and the colours of the Paint to Sample programme are available. One of the components of the Heritage Design package is a high-quality decorative graphic in white (satin finish) that includes three different elements: the lollipop with individually selectable car numbers between 0 and 99, the 50-year Turbo logo and a Porsche logo. Lovers of a minimalist look can opt to dispense with some or all of the graphic elements. The historic 1964 Porsche emblem is reproduced on the front bonnet and hubcaps of the Sport Classic wheels, painted in Brilliant Silver and White (satin). The Turbo 50 and Porsche logos in the rear section are in Gold. In the interior, the celebratory model is enhanced with additional leather details and tartan inserts. This classic motif characterises the contours of the dashboard, the glove box and the inserts on the seat backs. The steering wheel bears the historic Porsche emblem, while the glove compartment in the centre console has the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo embossed on the leather. The dials of the instrument cluster and Sport Chrono clock in the Heritage Design package are green.
