Romania chooses another anti-EU and anti-NATO nationalist in the first round of the second presidential elections, after the November elections won by Calin Georgescu and annulled by the Constitutional Court due to financial irregularities and Russian interference.
According to the first exit polls released after the polls closed, George Simion, candidate of the extreme right and leader of the Aur, is confirmed as the most voted. But he will have to contend in the 18 May ballot with one of the two moderate and pro-Western candidates.
Avangarde exit polls (taken up to 7pm and without including the foreign vote) in fact give Simion at 30%, with challengers Crin Antonescu and Nicușor Dan paired at 23%, within the margin of error.
The Curs poll, on the other hand, estimates Simion at 33.1%, followed by Antonescu (22.9%) and Dan (20.9%).
Who of the two will advance to the second round will only become clear with the official results, but both represent a clear alternative to Simion:
