Unannounced and unannounced United Transport Presidium. Unatras: we confirm the stop in May
The road haulage blockade for the high fuel prices implemented by United Transport since midnight on Sunday was suspended following an accident that resulted in the death of a lorry driver: the man died after being run over, twenty minutes after midnight, by a car on the A1 motorway on the Caserta section at the San Nicola La Strada service area, in the province of Caserta, while he was on foot engaged in a lorry protest.
Unannounced protest
A sudden and unannounced protest at the Caserta Police Headquarters, while outside the Caserta Sud junction there was a garrison of truck drivers with about 200 participants, monitored by the Traffic Police. On the A1, the protest began around midnight, when the first trucks started to queue up along the two lanes towards the right-hand edge of the motorway carriageway, i.e. the middle and right-hand lanes, leaving the first lane, usually used for overtaking, free. The 55-year-old man arrived with his lorry and stopped, getting out of the vehicle probably also to help his colleagues to slow down the lorries that were gradually arriving.
He was hit by a Mini Cooper, whose driver, a 23-year-old unconvicted Caserta resident, stopped. Nappo died instantly. The truck drivers then removed the blockade shortly after 4 a.m.
Uggè (Unatras), we confirm stop in May
Paolo Uggè, president of Unatras, stigmatises 'with firmness the blockade implemented by TrasportoUnito: in the course of this irresponsible action, a lorry driver, an innocent father of a family, in the province of Naples unfortunately lost his life. An extremely serious event. To the victim's family we express our deepest sorrow, our condolences and our closeness'. Uggè recalls that 'the national coordination of the road hauliers' associations adhering to Unatras has already decided on its own line at last Friday's meeting, which will be made explicit in the next few hours with the indication of the dates of the a trucking strike next May, in full compliance with the self-regulation code'.
