The latest news, concerning austerity measures due to the war in the Middle East, concerns the Netherlands where the national energy crisis plan was triggered.

This is the first time it has been activated since its introduction after the shock of the war in Ukraine.
Phase one - Dutch media report - has no immediate effect, but marks an increase in alertness, with the strengthening of supply monitoring and coordination with the most energy-intensive sectors, such as transport and agriculture.
As the situation worsens, stronger measures are planned, including reduced speed limits on motorways and car-free Sundays.
Premier Rob Jetten is expected to announce aid soon to curb the effects of high energy prices, including possible tax breaks for motorists.
Spring in fuel costs (+24%), Australian Qantas cuts flights
Australia's national flag carrier Qantas on 15 April 2026 announced that it will drastically cut domestic flights over the next two months, with the suspension of several regional routes, in response to soaring fuel prices, which threaten a reduction in revenue of around half a billion euros.
As a result of the US and Israeli war against Iran, it has recorded additional fuel costs of around EUR 800 million.
A market update conducted by the airline indicates fuel increases of USD 20 per barrel, which raises the total cost of fuel for the second half of the year to US$3.3 billion, USD 800 million more than expected (+24.2%).
However, there will be no job cuts at this stage.
