Trump's economic blockade weighs on Cuba

 EPA/ERNESTO MASTRASCUSA

The situation in Cuba, from January 2026 and in the months immediately following, is characterised by a deep energy and economic crisis that is still ongoing, described by some sources as one of the most serious in the island's history.

The economic blockade imposed by the US has intensified the scarcity of resources, with serious consequences for the power grid and daily life.

Russia has sent a second ship loaded with oil to Cuba, according to Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, despite the US fuel embargo still in place.
