In Malaysia civil servants in smart working from 15 April
According to the Financial Times, in an article dated 2 April 2026. Malaysia plans to introduce a work-from-home policy for civil servants as of 15 April, in order to reduce travel and mitigate the impact of the global fuel crisis.
Employees residing in major administrative centres, including the capital Kuala Lumpur, with a one-way commute of more than 8 kilometres, can work remotely up to three days a week.
Essential workers are exempt, including those employed in the security, defence, health and education sectors.
The government's chief secretary, Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, stated that civil servants must access every hour and ensure the same level of productivity.
