Racial hatred against Liliana Segre, writer Cecilia Parodi sentenced

"I hate all Jews, I hate all Israelis, from the first to the last one, I hate all those who defend them'. This sentence, together with other anti-Semitic expressions towards the life senator Liliana Segre, cost the writer and activist Cecilia Parodi a sentence, decided by Milan judge Luca Milani to one year and six months' suspended imprisonment for aggravated defamation and propaganda to ethnic and religious discrimination.

Il processo, con forma abbreviata, aveva preso le mosse da una denuncia della senatrice sopravvissuta alla Shoah per un video pubblicato su Instagram e circolato nel web, dove Parodi affermava «odio tutti gli ebrei, odio tutti gli israeliani, dal primo all'ultimo, odio tutti quelli che li difendono» e altri commenti antisemiti. «Vi odio perché mi avete rovinato la vita, la fiducia, la speranza», diceva nel video Parodi. «Non basterebbe piazzale Loreto, servirebbe piazzale Tienanmen. Giuro che sarà in prima fila a sputarvi addosso», aggiungeva ancora. Nel condannarla il Gup ha accolto pienamente la richiesta del pubblico ministero di Milano, Leonardo Lesti, con l'esclusione della sola condotta della “istigazione” a delinquere per motivi di odio razziale (che non ha influito sulla pena).

Parodi was also ordered to pay 4,065 euro in legal costs and to pay compensation of over 20,000 euro in total as a provisional measure in favour of Segre (10,000 euro), who is a plaintiff in civil action with the lawyer Vincenzo Saponara, the Association of International Jewish lawyers and jurists and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities. The sentence must be published for 30 days on the website of the Ministry of Justice. The grounds for the sentence will be filed within 40 days. The name of the writer Parodi adds to the long list of haters denounced by Senator Segre, some of whom have already been tried, others are already at risk of being indicted.
