The Range Rover GT: the first grand tourer after so many SUVs. Here’s the turning point
With the fifth model in its sports car range, the brand is breaking with tradition, as this is not a true SUV but a lower-slung car designed for long journeys. It will be launched exclusively as an all-electric model, but will also be available in a range-extender hybrid version.
Here’s a Range Rover unlike any other. With the new GT, Land Rover is set to add a fifth member to its family of flagship models. As the name suggests, it is a grand tourer that stands out from SUVs thanks to its lower profile, reminiscent of an estate car or a modern crossover. Larger than the Velar, with proportions more akin to the Range Rover Sport, the latest addition features a silhouette with a sloping roofline. The GT is not based on any other models, as it utilises Land Rover’s EMA electric vehicle platform.
The interior is different from that of current Range Rover models
Although it is being launched as a purely electric vehicle, there are plans for a hybrid version with a range-extender mode, albeit at a later date. The technical specifications remain shrouded in mystery, but given its character, which is more akin to that of a car than an SUV, it is assumed that it will not have the same off-road capabilities as other Range Rover models. Like any self-respecting luxury vehicle, the GT features frameless doors that provide access to an interior that differs from that of current Range Rover models.
It will make its debut as a 2+2 model, but a 5-seater version is also planned
Unsurprisingly, traditional buttons have been kept to a minimum, whilst the dashboard is not dominated by a wall of screens. Although the photos released so far show the GT with a 2+2 interior layout, the car will also be available in a more practical three-seater rear configuration. In the four-seater version, however, the two seats are separated by a centre console featuring cup holders, a wireless charging pad, an armrest and a touchscreen for controlling both the climate control and multimedia settings.

Other noteworthy features include the panoramic glass roof and the generous legroom for rear passengers. The rectangular instrument cluster indicates a range of 462 km with 80 per cent of the battery charge remaining. That said, not everything inside has gone digital. There are paddles behind the steering wheel and a few physical buttons scattered here and there. By contrast, the climate control controls have been integrated into the central display – a solution that isn’t entirely ideal, but is rapidly becoming the norm on new models.

Overall, the cabin of the new Range Rover GT seems like a pleasant place to sit, even on the longest journeys, so much so that Land Rover states that everything has been designed to create an oasis of tranquillity inside the quietest Range Rover ever, thanks to its battery-powered powertrain. Whilst it is certain that the new Range Rover GT will be manufactured in the UK, many other details and features will only be revealed in a few months’ time. This includes the market launch date in 2027 and a possible price.
