Rare diseases: an evening for the Golgi Foundation. Music and solidarity to promote biomedical research
Supporting new projects, especially in the maternal-infant area: the Joe Damiani Band's Groove ensemble concert will raise funds at the Borsoni Theatre in Brescia to help increasingly promote the study and application of advanced technologies
An evening of music, research and solidarity to support the Camillo Golgi Foundation and biomedical research. It will be held on Friday 30 January at 8.30 p.m. at the Renato Borsoni Theatre in Brescia, which will host the Joe Damiani Band's Groove ensemble concert. The evening is organised in collaboration with the Centro Teatrale Bresciano and the Luca Marenzio Conservatory of Brescia and is realised with the support of ABP Nocivelli. The Golgi Foundation was established in 1987 and has always been committed to biomedical scientific research, especially in the field of maternal and child health, and in particular to funding research projects on rare diseases and tumours.
The Foundation's commitment
"We increasingly want to promote the study and application of the most modern biomedical technologies, in order to prevent, diagnose and treat rare diseases as early as possible," says Prof. Enrico Agabiti Rosei, President of the Camillo Golgi Foundation. "In almost 40 years, we have financed around 100 scholarships, 16 projects for young researchers, and donated teaching, scientific and care equipment. The main disciplines we have focused on have been paediatrics, child neuropsychiatry, oncology, neurology, vascular medicine and pathological anatomy. We are convinced that only independent research and continuous innovation can identify new diagnostic and therapeutic tools that are useful to patients'.
The numbers
'Rare diseases,' the president continues, 'affect more than 2 million people in Italy alone. About 8,000 different diseases have been known and studied worldwide so far. In the vast majority of cases they are of genetic origin and arise during childhood or adolescence. However, these conditions are not easy to diagnose and due to their rarity and complexity they almost never present specific symptoms. Diagnoses are thus often late and specific treatments are not always available. So for all these reasons, innovative clinical and scientific activity must always be supported and encouraged. We would like to thank all those who made it possible and who will participate in the charity event'.
The evening
The musical evening will be a sonic journey through acid jazz, funk and soul where rhythm and melodies become pure emotion. Refined groove, contagious energy, living music. From blues to elegant soul, via the metropolitan atmospheres of acid jazz and nu-jazz, the concert is a journey through the sounds that have redefined the language of our time.
