Riccardo Bossi has been arrested and must serve a sentence of 5 years and 9 months

Riccardo Bossi, the eldest son of Lega founder Umberto Bossi, was arrested yesterday in Busto Arsizio (Varese) following the enforcement of a combined sentence totalling 5 years and 9 months. The order, signed by the public prosecutor of Busto Arsizio, Carlo Nocerino, was carried out by the Carabinieri, who went to Bossi’s home and took him to Busto Arsizio prison. The convictions relate to offences committed in 2011 and 2020 for the crimes of embezzlement, fraud and the unauthorised receipt of the citizenship income. Not included in the total is the one-year-and-four-month sentence for abuse of his mother.

“I learnt from the press what had happened to Riccardo; I believe that, in life, everyone is a product of their own choices and must take personal responsibility for their own actions.” Renzo Bossi made these remarks to AdnKronos whilst at the Chamber of Deputies for the presentation of his father Umberto’s parliamentary speeches. “It is not for me to comment on the legal matters concerning him,” he said of Riccardo, the Senatur’s eldest son. “However, I would like to clarify one family matter, not least to avoid misrepresentations that do not correspond to reality. Riccardo is the son from our father Umberto’s first marriage and has always led a life separate from mine and that of my brothers, who are Manuela’s children. This distance did not arise today, nor is it a consequence of his legal proceedings. Quite simply, a genuine family bond has never been established between us: we have led different lives, moved in different circles, and have never shared the everyday life that normally exists between siblings, not even on traditional family occasions such as Christmas,” concluded Renzo.
