Another food delivery company ends up under the lens of the Milan Prosecutor's Office. The Carabinieri of Milan's labour protection group, at the request of the public prosecutor Paolo Storari, have subjected Deliveroo Italy to urgent judicial control, for having exploited 3 thousand riders in Milan (and 20 thousand throughout Italy) 'taking advantage of their state of need'. Their pay, according to the investigators' reconstructions, is up to 90 per cent lower than the poverty line and collective bargaining. Once again, as already happened recently for the Glovo case, the prosecution takes the highest normative reference: Article 36 of the Constitution and the right to a job that respects the dignity of the person.

Andrea Giuseppe Zocchi, the company's sole director, was entered in the register of suspects, as well as the company itself.

The intervention instrument provides for the judicial administrator to support the entrepreneur in the management of the company. The validation by the gip is expected in a few days. Orders were also served on seven companies that use riders: Mc Donald's, Burger king, Original Bucket - Kentucky Fried Chicken, Poke House, Carrefour, Esselunga, Crai.

Deliveroo Italy is controlled by the American company Doordash, through the UK-based Deliveroo Limited. The latter directly controls Deliveroo Italy with a smaller share; the rest through the British company Roofoods.

The investigation examined the statements of more than 50 riders, from which a homogeneous picture emerged in which the work is clearly not autonomously managed, but completely embedded in the digital platform Deliveroo. The contention is that it is employed in all respects, but without due protection, as well as being poorly paid and without coverage in case of health risks.
