In summer it is nice to be out in the garden relaxing, but you have to take care of the greenery and having to do it every weekend can be nerve-racking. If the lawn is small, you can come to terms with the hour you have to devote to it, but on large areas the new generation of robot lawnmowers come in very handy. But do they really work? We tested the Dreame Roboticmower A2, which is designed for fairly large areas and is super high-tech.
The Dreame A2 presents itself with a modern look and a durable ABS body, although the feel is a bit plastic. Its weatherproof certification allows it to work even if it rains. With a weight of 16.4 kg and rubber gear wheels, it can cope with slopes of up to 27 degrees. Its large dimensions make it suitable for extensive gardens without being bulky.
Smart, wireless perimeter mapping
.One of the main limitations of the automatic lawnmowers of the past was the need to fence off the area to be mowed with wire. Now, the mowers recognise the lawn automatically and the A2 starts working without further help thanks to the OmniSense 2.0 system, which combines 3D LiDAR, full HD camera and artificial intelligence. This enables autonomous mapping of the garden, recognition of obstacles and the ability to define even non-adjacent cutting zones. In theory. In practice, we encountered some problems if the lawn is not already well mowed and if it is not clear of obstacles. After a couple of unsatisfactory attempts at automatic zone recognition, we decided to define it 'by hand' by controlling The Dreame A2 via the app and having it define the perimeter. This way it has never missed a beat again, even performing perfectly the bends of less than 90° that the manual advises against setting.
Silent and precise cutting. Also acts as a guardian.
.The 22 cm rotor allows coverage of up to 3,000 m² and the EdgeMaster system allows the robot to approach edges up to 5 cm, while the steel blades and 60W brushless motor guarantee good performance even on dense grass. The robot is also noiseless: just 56 dB. The cutting height varies from 30 to 70 mm, with two selectable speeds.
In addition to navigation, the Dreame A2's camera can be used to remotely control the garden. There is no shortage of advanced security system, with PIN anti-theft, GPS, lift-off alarm and LTE connectivity. The built-in 4G SIM includes three years of service.
