Ryanair: new baggage rules from 10 November – a guide for travellers
The airline advises arriving at the airport 60 minutes early if you are checking in luggage. There are no changes for those travelling without luggage.
The rules are changing for those flying with Ryanair. From 10 November, passengers who need to check in hold luggage must arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time, compared with the 40 minutes previously required. The change, announced by the airline last April, therefore introduces an additional 20-minute buffer to complete pre-flight procedures.
The aim is to make the process easier for passengers who need to check in their luggage, particularly at the busiest airports and during peak periods.
More time for security checks and to get to the gate
The airline itself has explained the reasons behind the change, stating in a press release that the new rule will affect around 20 per cent of passengers travelling with Ryanair – namely, those who check in luggage.
The extra time should allow travellers to deal with any queues at security and passport control with greater peace of mind, so that they can reach their gate before boarding begins.
«“This change will allow 20 per cent of Ryanair passengers who check in a bag to have more time to get through the queues at security and passport control and reach their boarding gate before boarding begins, particularly during busy periods,” explains the airline.
