New redditometer yes, new redditometer no. On standby is the decree issued by Deputy Minister of the Economy Maurizio Leo. Technically, announced a statement of Palazzo Chigi in the evening of 22 May, the application of the measure is deferred "concerning the synthetic determination of income, pending a subsequent regulatory measure to revise the institution. In short, a suspension of the new edition of the redditometer launched by deputy minister Leo, also announced by a video-message by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on social media: 'Today I met with deputy minister Leo and we came to the conclusion that it would be better to suspend the measure pending further investigation. But this is not enough for many. The League has presented an agenda (Gusmeroli, Bagnai, Cavandoli, Centemero) in which it reiterates that 'suspension is not enough, but complete abolition is necessary'.
The actual redditometer was repealed in 2018. Now the ministerial decree of 7 May 2024, published in the Official Gazette under the signature of Maurizio Leo, had reinstated the synthetic assessment tool that goes back to income by analysing the ability to pay for tax years starting from 2016. A text that immediately caused debate, creating disarray in the same majority. This despite the fact that the decree was 'previously shared with consumer associations, Istat and the privacy guarantor'. A disarray that at first prompted the government to ask Fdi's deputy minister to go to the Council of Ministers on Friday 24 May to explain the rationale behind a measure of which, given the hot reactions, the allies had certainly not been informed. And then to suspend the decree pending the revision decree. Here in 'Said and contradicted' the hot statements of the protagonists.
Meloni, never any fiscal big brother
Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers, 22 May 2024 .
"No 'big brother tax' will ever be introduced by this government. I have always been against invasive redditometer mechanisms applied to ordinary people. The implementation of the tax delegation, carried out in particular by Economy Deputy Minister Leo, has so far gone in the direction of improving the relationship between the State and citizens, protecting honest workers, and countering large-scale evasion, that of the self-styled 'nobodies' with villas, boats, and supercars. We will continue in this direction, always on the side of the citizens'.
Salvini, redditometer horror of the past
Matteo Salvini, deputy prime minister and leader of the League, 22 May 2024
