Samsung's technology 'in the field' for the inauguration of Milan Cortina 2026
The company has been a partner of the Olympic Games for 30 years. Samsung House inaugurated in Milan
Just a few hours to go before the opening ceremony of Milan-Cortina 2026: in addition to the traditional cameras, there will be a slew of Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra cameras at the San Siro. They will be installed in dynamic spots - including jibs, i.e. mobile camera arms positioned above the field and the athletes' entrance tunnels - to capture immersive perspectives in real time and wirelessly. The company is working with the IOC and Olympic Broadcasting Services (Obs) to ensure that footage captured on smartphones is integrated into the live broadcast.
At the San Siro Stadium on Friday night, 75,000 spectators and more than 3,500 athletes from over 90 countries are expected to attend
Samsung is a global Olympic and Paralympic partner. Nearly 3,800 athletes were given a special edition, in Olympic colours, of the Galaxy Z Flip7, Samsung's latest foldable launched last summer. But the Korean giant's relationship with the longest-running sporting event in history goes back a long way.
At Palazzo Serbelloni, a historic Milanese building of Napoleonic origin, the company inaugurated the 'Samsung House' on Wednesday evening, which will remain active and open to partners, athletes and media for the entire period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In one of the rooms there is an exhibition with all the phones that have played a role in the partnership with the Summer and Winter Olympics since the advent of the mobile phone. The journey through history begins with Nagano 1998, the Japanese Winter Games where Samsung brought the N206, a brick mobile phone with a large antenna and small display. There, the Call Home programme allowed athletes to call their families free of charge at a time when access to mobile phones was limited.
Among the technologies that will be made available for these games, real-time translation, one of the AI services of the moment, could not be missing. A select group of volunteers, equipped with Galaxy devices with the Galaxy AI interpreter function, will be tasked with facilitating easier and more immediate communication between athletes, officials and visitors of different languages.
