The Lombardy Region is set to request a state of emergency in response to the damage caused by the bad weather, which has in recent hours led to flooding, landslides and building collapses, and forced the evacuation of around 400 people.
“I have asked the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, to declare a state of emergency in response to the damage caused by the spell of bad weather that has hit various parts of Lombardy” explained Governor Attilio Fontana, who has tasked the Regional Councillor for Territorial Affairs, Gianluca Comazzi, and the Regional Councillor for Civil Protection, Romano La Russa, with preparing the documentation to formalise the request.
“I would like to thank Minister Musumeci,” added the president, “who has assured me that he will submit Lombardy’s request to the Council of Ministers as soon as possible.”

The bad weather shows no sign of letting up in Italia, with extreme weather events affecting Tuscany, Lombardy and Trentino in particular. In Tuscany, operations continued throughout the night to tackle the problems caused by the heavy storms and restore power to around 6,000 households, of which over 2,000 were in the province of Pistoia. The President of the Region, Eugenio Giani, announced this on social media, thanking “the regional civil protection service, the fire service, the police, volunteers and everyone involved in the response”.
Meanwhile, the LaMMa consortium has issued an initial assessment of the bad weather that has hit the region, whilst awaiting the second storm front expected this morning, which is causing further concern.
