Shipwreck off the coast of Djibouti: at least 109 migrants dead and 116 missing
At least 109 migrants, including 15 children, have lost their lives and at least 116 are missing following a boat sinking that took place during the night of 8–9 October off the coast of Djibouti, the UN has announced.
According to survivors, the boat, which was carrying 350 people from Djibouti to Yemen, capsized near Guhere, north of the town of Obock. This was reported in a statement by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), whose teams are working alongside local authorities to provide assistance. According to initial estimates, the death toll is set to rise.
