Sofia: neo-Nazi skinheads attack hotel housing Italian Jewish teenagers

Anti-Semitic provocation and violence against a group of young Italian Jews in Sofia, Bulgaria. On 2 August, a group of neo-Nazis attempted to force their way into, and subsequently blocked the entrance to, a hotel hosting Jewish teenagers from Rome and Milan, along with their supervisors, causing moments of high tension. In a video published by the LaPresse news agency, shows a number of young people dressed in black gathered in front of the hotel entrance, shouting “Sieg Heil” and performing the Nazi salute.
Fadlun: We strongly condemn this despicable anti-Semitic provocation
“Our children are not free to travel in Europe without being exposed to violence and verbal abuse from anti-Semites. A video documents the despicable provocation, the Nazi salutes and the shouts of ‘Sieg Heil!’ by a group of neo-Nazis wearing black T-shirts bearing a skull, who tried to force their way into a hotel where dozens of teenagers, including members of Rome’s Jewish Community, were staying. There were several tense minutes, not least because, after the police intervened, the neo-Nazis returned and once again blocked the entrances, threatening and shouting at our young people. The Jewish Community of Rome strongly condemns this latest episode of anti-Semitism, which targets Italian Jewish teenagers and their educators in a European Union country. “We call on the Bulgarian authorities to shed light on this attack and to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted as soon as possible.” So said Victor Fadlun, President of the Jewish Community of Rome.

“I express my solidarity with the group of young Italian Jews who were attacked and threatened inside a hotel in Sofia. I condemn this latest episode of anti-Semitism, a scourge that must be combated, a form of hatred and discrimination that must be eradicated. My thoughts are with President Victor Fadlun and the Jewish Community of Rome”: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani wrote this on X, commenting on the attempted intrusion by a group of neo-Nazis into a hotel in Sofia.
