Turnover of EUR 4.8 billion and a turnover of EUR 1.7 billion in terms of exports (3% of the total food & beverage share). Export growth is 154% in the last ten years. These are the economic figures of the Italian spirits sector generated by 578 companies with over 6,200 employees.
The sector was discussed in Rome on the occasion of the General Assembly of "SpiritsEurope", opened with the greeting of Micaela Pallini president of Federvini.

The economic report of the Federvini Observatory, presented by Nomisma during the Assembly, also records that the Italian spirits supply chain counts 35 Geographical Indication products, representing 14% of the total European GIs and demonstrating - analysts point out - a strong link with the territories of reference (82% of food supplies come from local suppliers).

During the assembly, part of the proceedings - informs a note - was dedicated to the theme of promoting responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages, which sees the Federvini component among the most active within SpiritsEurope with the awareness-raising project No binge - Communicating responsible consumption developed thanks to the involvement of the Italian academic world and which started in 2022 from the collaboration with Rome's La Sapienza University.

"We look with concern," Pallini commented, "at a scenario that is increasingly characterised by unilateral regulatory measures, international trade tensions that burden the free movement of goods, and risk compromising the competitiveness of production sectors such as spirits, which are very important for the European economy. We look with concern at new forms of prohibitionism that instead of tackling the problem of abuse through prevention and consumer education, seek shortcuts in obligations, prohibitions and taxation, levers that are notoriously ineffective'.
