Stock exchanges: Wall Street on new records, Europe in alternating current
Still new highs for Wall Street, where the assumption of a more dovish Fed pushed the S&P500 index to a new all-time high of 6,508.23 on 28 August. European stock exchanges were less bright after a black Friday at the beginning of the month in the wake of the tariffs chaos, trade agreements, hopes for a truce in Ukraine and the risk of new early elections in France. Paris was the worst in August (-2%) followed by Frankfurt (-1.4%); Milan closed positive (+1.3% in August), but Madrid did much better (+3.9). Overall, the Euro Stoxx 600 was weak (-0.6%), with strong sales in the tech sector (-4.6% the sector index).
