The summer is announcing itself with the first red hot weather mark, expected on Thursday, 20 June, in Perugia and followed on Friday, 21 June by eight more red marks. This is indicated by the bulletin on heatwaves released by the Ministry of Health on its website. The red dot indicates the highest level of risk for the entire population and indicates the arrival of heat waves 'with possible negative effects on the health of healthy and active people and not only on risk subgroups such as the elderly, very young children and people with chronic diseases,' the ministry's website states. By Friday, 15 cities in 10 regions are expected to have an orange sticker, indicating 'weather conditions that may pose a risk to health, particularly in the most susceptible population subgroups'.
In Latium, Frosinone, Latina, Rieti, Rome and Viterbo have the orange dot; in Sicily, Catania and Palermo, and then Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Campobasso, Florence, Naples, Pescara, Reggio Calabria. Eight red dot cities are expected on Friday 21, four of which are in Lazio (Frosinone, Latina, Rieti, Rome); the other cities are Ancona, Campobasso, Palermo, and Perugia. Heat waves occur when there are very high temperatures for several consecutive days, often associated with high humidity, strong sunlight and lack of ventilation. These climatic conditions can pose a health risk to the population. To communicate the possible health effects of heat waves, the ministry produces daily bulletins for 27 cities with 24-, 48- and 72-hour forecasts. The publication on the portal is active every year from May to September. Meanwhile, there is a yellow alert for bad weather in the Veneto region today. A study shows that heat-related deaths have been steadily increasing in Europe since 2013. Worldwide, the deaths of more than 900 Muslims are recorded these days in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj pilgrimage.
