In Nigeria in vibrant Lagos between Yorùbá traditions and the contemporary
Tarkwa Bay and Elegushi Royal Beach lapped by the Atlantic Ocean
Water is another collective craze. Thus, whatever the weather, Lagosians never fail to spend a few Sunday hours on the beaches lapped by the Atlantic Ocean. In particular, they favour Tarkwa Bay Beach which is accessed on board the small boats that frequently sail from the jetties of Victoria Island. Elegushi Royal Beach is also popular for its wide beach, lively beach bars, the possibility of practising water sports and for its small restaurants that prepare Jollof rice and the fish called tilapia. Admittedly, sometimes the musical accompaniment at picnics can be excessive, although the smiles and invitations to join in the family festivities are so genuine that they erase the initial disappointment. To stay, one can finally choose between the Eko Hotel & Suites on Victoria Island which is also known for its large ballroom often used for weddings and celebrations, the Delborough Hotel also frequented by high dignitaries who often arrive in their luxurious cars followed by a long trail of attendants, or the boutique hotel which has all different guest rooms decorated by eccentric and entertaining artists. After all, the whole of Lagos. which is also the capital of African cinema due to the wealth of its productions and the sets often set up and visible in the districts of the centre, makes cheerfulness its identity card.
