Tax authorities: Avellino’s Guardia di Finanza uncovers a fortune-teller working off the books and receiving the citizenship income

The Solofra unit of the Guardia di Finanza, in the province of Avellino, uncovered a woman who described herself as a ‘sorceress’ but was offering her professional fortune-telling services without declaring any income to the tax authorities.
Advertising on social media
As established by the Guardia di Finanza, the woman used social media to advertise telephone consultations in fortune-telling and palmistry, passing them off as ‘free’. In reality, the service was paid for: subsequent financial investigations into her bank accounts revealed over 4,000 transactions settled via bank transfers, top-ups and credit entries.
Tax evasion totalling over 50,000 euros
An analysis of cash flows revealed undeclared turnover in excess of 130,000 euros, amounting to tax evasion of more than 50,000 euros.
Citizenship income received between 2019 and 2022
In addition to tax evasion, the investigations revealed that the woman had wrongfully claimed and received the Citizenship Income between 2019 and 2022, amounting to a total of around 30,000 euros.
Reports to judges and the Court of Auditors
The manager has been reported to the judicial authorities and the Court of Auditors on the grounds of financial loss to the public purse. At the same time, the report has been forwarded to INPS to initiate proceedings for the revocation and repayment of the benefit.
