Introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 Coupé 4: the electric sports car that combines 544 cavalli with a record-breaking range
The new version offers ultra-fast 600 kW charging and a range of over 800 km.
Mercedes-AMG is expanding its electric range with the introduction of the new GT 53 Coupé 4, where the final number indicates that it has four doors. Positioned as the entry-level model in the range, the car combines a 544-cavalli powertrain with an advanced battery pack, delivering a WLTP range of over 800 kilometres.
A beating heart and thrilling performance
Beneath a sleek, aerodynamic body, characterised by a drag coefficient of just 0.21, lie two permanent-magnet synchronous motors. Together, they deliver a peak power output of no less than 544 cavalli (400 kW) and a monstrous torque of 800 Nm. What does that mean on the road? A sprint from zero to 100 per hour in just 3.5 seconds when using the optimised standing start function. The top speed is 230 km/h (electronically limited), but if you opt for the AMG Driver’s Package, you can push the car up to 250 km/h.
Power delivery is managed by a sophisticated two-speed gearbox: the short first gear ensures lightning-fast starts and maximum efficiency in town, whilst the second gear takes over to ensure comfort and fuel economy on long motorway journeys. And whilst it lacks the visceral sound of the petrol AMGs, the AMG Forte Sport+ mode faithfully simulates the sound of the inline-six from the previous E 53 Coupé, even replicating the torque interruptions controlled via the steering wheel paddles.
A charge that takes the worry out of running out of power
The real engineering masterpiece, however, lies beneath the floorpan. The 106 kWh battery utilises an 800-volt architecture and comprises no fewer than 2,660 cylindrical cells cooled directly by oil. This solution allows heat to be dissipated in a flash and enables DC charging to reach an incredible peak of 600 kW.
This means that it takes just ten minutes at the ‘right’ charging point to regain over 534 kilometres of range, or to go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in a record time of eleven minutes. And the WLTP certification is clear: you can travel between 682 and 809 kilometres on a single charge.
