New anti-counterfeiting bands with the tricolour to debut on Prosecco bottles

The anti-counterfeiting bands with the tricolour produced by the Mint will make their debut on bottles of Prosecco, which has become one of the symbolic products of Made in Italy and therefore one of the most prone to imitations, with the phenomenon of so-called 'Italian sounding' that is now estimated at a loss of 120 billion a year for all Italian companies. The new State seal guaranteeing certified quality produced by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (Ipsz)will be used by all DOCG wines and, at the request of the Knowrs, by DOC wines, replacing the one already in use.

"Thanks to our collaboration with the Poligrafico dello Stato we are able to guarantee the quality of our products all over the world, starting, of course, with our excellences," said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida. "Today we are presenting the vignette for Prosecco, an extraordinary Italian wine, the best-selling wine in the world, which is thus further protected from any possible imitation. We want those who buy an Italian product to find exactly what they expect, and this is why we are offering an additional element of guarantee: a clearly visible mark, which cannot be imitated in any way, that strengthens the entire supply chain and protects its added value, made up of quality, work, identity, culture and tradition".

For Giancarlo Guidolin, president of the Prosecco Doc Consortium, this is a 'recognition that confirms the Consortium's commitment to consumers. The Qr code and advanced traceability make every bottle safer and more transparent, strengthening the protection of the denomination. The first marks will be applied to the special bottles for the next Winter Olympics (of which Prosecco will be the official bubbly, ed), an occasion to celebrate Prosecco Doc and its deep bond with the territory, an expression of Italian excellence recognised throughout the world".

"The new State seal for Docg and Doc wines," concluded the president of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato Paolo Perrone, "is a powerful anti-counterfeiting tool and a guarantee of certified quality: protecting our Made in Italy means enhancing it.
